Tip of the Day
Cadence and ABS
Experienced drivers are familiar with the technique called Cadence
braking, which keeps the wheels rolling for optimum braking during an
emergency stop. This is how it works – when the driver senses that one
or more wheels begin to lock, he momentarily releases the pressure on
the brake pedal to allow the wheels to roll again, then re-applies
pressure for maximum stopping power.
By practicing this on and off braking technique which can be refined
to a point where in which you can keep the wheels in continuous grip
at the threshold of wheel lock up, by which the car stops more
efficiently.
ABS on the other hand, does this very same thing but with the help of
sensors, pressure limiting valves & an onboard computer. The car
senses the wheel lock up and will release & reapply the brake pressure
on the wheels to prevent lockup & to provide optimum stopping power.
In short, a combination of technique & technology ensures good & safe
riding.
