Tip of the day
Overdriving the headlights
Driving skills depends upon visibility & the headlights are the only
source of illumination to see what’s ahead. Sadly, on our roads most
people don’t care much about the proper usage of lights which in turn
brings danger to themselves & others as well.
High beams normally let you see 350-400 feet ahead & low beams up to
200. Hence it’s important to always adjust the speed of the vehicle
based on how far you can see. If the stopping distance is much more
than the visibility, then you are overdriving your headlights & may be
won’t able to stop when needed.
Normally, for a vehicle that travels at 55-60 kmph takes roughly 200
feet to stop on a dry pavement. So, if the conditions are adverse then
the distance increases & hence it’s important to adjust the speed
under which you can always bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Proper
usage of the high & the low beams, along with switching then wisely in
between is the right way to see and let others see what’s ahead.
