Tip of The Day

What is a safe following distance

Tailgating or driving too close to the vehicle in front is the primary
reason behind so many rear end crashes. If there is a proper space
cushion in between the vehicles, a lot of such accidents can be
avoided.

Keeping a safe distance means leaving a proper space between the
vehicles as per your judgment, which should be adequate to safely stop
the vehicle in case of an emergency. The general rule often suggested
is to keep one car length distance for every 20 kmph of speed. This
means that, if you are travelling at 60 kmph then 3 car lengths shall
be the space maintained in order for you to stop in a dime & for the
vehicle that follows.

Stopping distance is also affected by road condition, weather,
condition of the vehicle & also by the weight and speed of the
vehicle. Always keep in mind that the driver in front of you can slam
the brake any time & you must be able to stop.
