How good is the premium fuel? Regular unleaded fuel when mixed with additives is known as premium fuel. The normal octane rating of unleaded fuel will be around 89-91, where the additives come in & increase that number. The most octane rated fuel in India carries a RON value of 97, which is indented to be used in performance engines. The octane ratings are useful for engines that have a higher compression ratio & also prevent engine knocking as it plays along with the ignition point of the fuel. Moreover, the usage of detergents & lubricants helps with keeping the engine running smoother. Due to the higher octane presence, such fuels are mostly suited for super cars & bikes that mandate high octane fuel & works on a high compression ratio. Before switching to the higher octane fuel, the best practice is to consult with the authorized service center to make sure that if the fuel is suitable to the car's engine & its components.
